Art for kids | Print |

Julia is teaching art to kids since 2004. She worked as an art instructor at different private art schools both in the States and in Belarus. Julia has developed her own art teaching program for children of different ages. Kids and their parents love her classes.

Why Art?
1.    Creating art helps children discover the unexpected possibilities of their creativity.
2.    Art teaches critical thinking rather than getting the right answer.
3.    Through art children learn that problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer.
4.    Art teaches students about subtleties.
5.    Art teaches children to evaluate and make good judgments about qualitative relationships.
6.    Art reminds us that the limits of our language do not define the limits of our thinking.
7.    Art celebrates multiple perspectives and different ways to see and interpret the world.
8.    Art teaches students to explore through and within possible responses.
9.    Art empowers children to say what cannot be said.
10.  Art enables us to discover the range and variety of what we are capable of doing.
Ages: 5-7
For beginning students, I use step-by-step guided lesson plans, giving enough structure to ensure skill development, yet enough freedom to be individually creative.
We draw favorite animals, characters, still life, and more while learning fundamental art elements: line, shape, texture, color, pattern, value and space.
The lessons are designed to guide students toward developing drawing and painting skills while encouraging personal expression and creativity. While many of the projects are guided, each student works with his or her own vision and produces a unique finished piece.
There is no critique. Students learn that they can follow their instincts, explore new ideas and take chances in their work without fear of criticism.
Media includes: oil pastel and chalk, water color and gouache  paint.
Age: 8+
Students in the intermediate class are ready to advance their skills to create more three-dimensionality in their work. Projects include animals, nature, still life, portraiture, human form as well as various artists and art periods. Emphasis is placed on drawing different objects (cubical, conical, etc.), shading, perspective, color, composition and developing finished pieces. Students will be encouraged to develop their own style and creative approach.
Students will use a variety of media including charcoal, color pencil, pastels, acrylic and watercolor.
